Swatch Faces

The first weekend of May we went to Venice with Swatch to live by first hand the opening of the 56th Biennale of Venice, the contemporary art fest most important of the world that will invade the Canal City until Nov 22nd. After enjoying a tour around Arsenale and some of the Giargini Bienal pavilions, Swatch made our visit even more special by welcoming us into their world. As you know, Swatch has always been linked to the art world, they trust young talents and bet on them, giving them exposure and support during the whole creative process. Three years ago they created the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, some kind of artistic mecca, a contemporary art center where, since its opening, has had more than 130 different artists from different fields, what makes it a contemporary creativity green-house. That’s why this year, Swatch has two pavilions with the work of 15 artists, their Swatch Faces.

We had the chance to chat with some of them and it was so pleasing to hear them talk about how free and supported they were during their creative workflows. Some of our favs were the now well-known Portuguese Joana Vasconcelos -with her own pavilion-, Chiara Luzzana -that transforms into music the noises around us- or Stefano Ogliari -in a pic down here, obsessed with filling the world with huge balloons-. Let’s hope there’s always someone that believes in others and makes the art industry something much more democratic and enjoyable for everyone. Thanks for everything, Swatch, see you at the next Bienal!
