Arashiyama — Cup of Couple

One of our favorite areas in Kioto is Arashiyama, west part of the city. This place is known because of its bamboo forest. Is incredible the sensation of walking through a way full of canes, looking up and hearing the wind sound.

If you are not an early bird you will listen a sound too, but not as pleasant as the one before: hundred of tourists pushing, shouting, with selfie sticks taking photos in the middle of the road.

Being one of the most beautiful places in the world has a cost

but keeping calm and breathing, everything goes better. Arashiyama is not only bamboo though, walk those streets is like being in a Kaiga or a traditional japanese painting. Wood houses, mountains, red lanterns, little boats navigating Katsura river… We loved spend a day there, visiting traditional fan stores, eating dango, drinking coffee in % Arabica and enjoying matcha at eX coffee, a traditional coffee shop where you can sit on the floor and admire a zen garden.

Una de nuestras zonas favoritas de Kioto es Arashiyama, al oeste de la ciudad. Esta zona es conocida por el famosísimo bosque de bambú. Es increíble pasear por el camino lleno de cañas, mirando hacia arriba y escuchando el sonido del viento que se esconde en el bosque.

Y si no madrugas mucho también te acompañará otro sonido menos agradable: el de los cientos de turistas empujando, con sus palos selfies, para hacerse una foto en mitad del camino.

Ser uno de los lugares más bonitos del mundo tiene sus inconvenientes

pero con paciencia y controlando la respiración, todo se lleva mejor. Arashiyama no es solo bambú, pasear por sus calles es como estar dentro de un Kaiga o una pintura tradicional japonesa. Casas de madera, montañas, farolillos rojos, barcas navegando por el río Katsura… Nos encantó pasar el día allí disfrutando de las tiendas tradicionales de abanicos, comiendo dango, bebiendo café en % Arabica y disfrutando de un matcha en eX café, una cafetería tradicional en la que puedes sentarte en el suelo a disfrutar de su jardín zen.
